Swaddling

Ok new problem. When do you stop swaddling? Both boys do not have good control of their limbs. They flail every where. They are starting to escape the swaddles, but cry when they get out. I have tried putting them in their crib without swaddling them, but it is torture. They move all around. We just bought a bunch of velcro and my mom is sewing it on the swaddles to keep them inside of it. The baby sites say to stop at 4 months. Maybe we should have never started. Ugh! New problems come up every time we solve one. Any ideas?

  1. If they like the swaddle keep them in it. You might just have to work on your technique to keep them in the swaddle. I think we took Trent out too early.

  2. And sewing sticky velcro isn't that much fun, BUT will be worth if it gets the job done!

  3. One of my college girlfriends tried to comment but couldn't (she doesn't have a blog so she'd be an 'anonymous' commenter - which you can add as an option on your blog if you want) and asked me to comment on her behalf:
Have you ever tried napping the boys in a car seat? My daughter napped best in her car seat in our half-bathroom with the loud vent on. (sounds crazy, I know) She had milk allergies also and this is all that would work for us. We did this off and on until she was at least 8 months old. At night she would sleep in her crib with a sound machine. Now she naps in her bed during the day without problems and she is 14 months. Don't let "Ferber" drive you crazy - 4 months is still very young to "spoil" your baby if they need the comfort....PS. I follow you through Allena. Hang in there!!

  4. I would keep swaddling until the can roll over and sleep on their tummy. My friend, Jennifer, is the swaddle queen...she says that you may have to use an actual blanket to swaddle; the fabric is stronger and they can't escape it as easily, but it does take some practice to get a good technique.
